Today, May 9th, the European Union celebrates Europe Day to commemorate the day in 1950 when French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). The “Schuman Declaration” is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union.
